If you’re looking for a way to wind down after a long day, restorative yoga might be the perfect fit for you. This type of yoga focuses on gentle stretches and relaxation techniques, which can help you feel more centered and calm. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned yogi, restorative yoga can be a great way to de-stress and unwind. So if you’re looking for some peace and quiet, give restorative yoga a try.

Scientific Research

Science has shown that the body and mind are intricately connected, so it’s no surprise that yoga is a popular way to promote overall health. Restorative yoga is a type of yoga that focuses on restoring balance in the body by providing gentle stretches.

The science behind restorative yoga is that it helps to restore the body’s natural balance. It does this by providing a deep state of relaxation, which can help to reduce stress and improve overall health. Restorative yoga can also help to improve circulation and increase flexibility. In addition, restorative yoga can help to improve sleep quality and reduce pain.

Restorative Yoga for Beginners

How to practice Restorative Yoga It is common for beginners in the yoga world to find themselves struggling with their first few classes.. It can be frustrating, because you feel like you’re doing everything wrong, but at the same time, you don’t want to stop practicing either.

As a result, you can get stuck in a cycle of frustration and self-doubt. If you’re doing yoga for relaxation, or to get “in shape” then it’s going to be much harder to practice Restorative yoga, because the goal is not to move into a certain position or posture. The goal is to relax into the pose. So if you’re trying to relax into a pose, you’re already doing something wrong.

How often you can do restorative yoga?

According to the study, people should practice restorative yoga once a week. Although this may seem like enough, I believe that if you are looking to reap the benefits of this practice, twice a week is ideal or you can  be practiced every day, but it’s important to listen to your body and do what feels best. If you’re feeling tired or run down, you may want to take a day or two off.

Yoga Journal

Yoga Journal recently published an info graphic about how often to do different types of yoga and it recommended practicing restorative yoga two times a week. Twice a week seems to be the sweet spot for when it comes to getting all of the benefits from this practice.

Yoga Sequence

Are you looking for a restorative yoga sequence that will help you relax and restore? If so, then you may want to try out a restorative yoga sequence. This type of yoga sequence is perfect for those who are dealing with stress or anxiety, as it helps to calm the mind and body.

In addition, a restorative yoga sequence can also be helpful for those who are recovering from an injury or illness. If you’re interested in giving this type of yoga a try, then keep reading for a step-by-step guide.

Restorative Yoga Postures for beginners:

1. Legs up the wall: This is a very simple and relaxing pose that can be done by anyone, regardless of their flexibility. All you need to do is find a wall and place your legs up against it, keeping your back flat on the ground. If you want, you can place a pillow under your hips for extra support. Stay in this pose for 5-10 minutes.

2. Child’s pose: Another easy and beginner-friendly posture, child’s pose can provide relief from back pain and fatigue. Simply kneel down on the ground and lower your torso and head to the floor in front of you. Stretch your arms out in front of you or place them by your sides. Stay in this pose for at least 1 minute.

3. Cat-cow pose: This is a gentle way to release tension in the spine and get some movement into the body. Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position. As you inhale, arch your back and look up towards the ceiling. As you exhale, round your back and tuck your chin to your chest. Repeat this sequence 5-10 times.

4. Downward facing dog: Although it may look daunting at first, downward facing dog is actually a very gentle pose that can be beneficial for beginners. Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position. As you exhale, lift your hips up and back to form an upside-down “V” shape with your body. Keep your feet hip-width apart and your arms straight. Hold this pose for 1-2 minutes.

5. Cobra pose: This posture is helpful in lengthening the spine and relieving back pain. Lie on your stomach with your legs stretched out behind you. Place your hands on the ground next to your chest. As you inhale, lift your head and chest off the ground, keeping your pelvis on the floor. Hold this pose for 1 minute before returning to starting position.
